I do not use standard "off the shelf" training packages nor is our training "talk and chalk", but "hands on" active and practical learning. I view the development of any competency based training as project management which must include check points or milestones thus ensuring the integrity and quality of the whole process.
I conduct detailed needs analysis with not only training participants, but as importantly, with stakeholders to ensure the training relates to your organisation and that all affected have a sense of ownership. Competencies are agreed upon, packages researched and designed then delivered with inbuilt evaluation mechanisms. Training should not be a one off event if it is to be successful, it should be followed up with evaluation, mentoring and coaching sessions to monitor the impact of the training and the need for further input.
